Students from Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) have been visitng Lake Valley Navajo School for the past three years. GRCC Professor Judith Kienitz has coordinated these collaborative efforts. LVNS is happy to welcome new and returning members each year.
The GRCC Teacher Education Pathway students and students from LVNS have established a cultural exchange referred to as The Cultural Connection!
Their visits have not been without sacrifices. GRCC Cultural Connection students choose to come and be with us at Lake Valley duing their college Spring Break. GRCC Cultural Connection students also fundraise extensively during the year selling custom designed tote bags. Students cut out the patterns, and a professional seamstress sewed them together for selling.
This year GRCC Cultural Connection students were stranded in the Cincinnati airport until their connecting flight arrived the following day! The LVNS studens were happy to see these weary travelers when they arrived!
GRCC Cultural Connection students have been sharing their prepared lessons in the LVNS classrooms as well as assisting LVNS teachers.

Welcome to Michigan web page by Lisa
LVNS third and fourth graders in Mrs. Nakai's class will become email pals with Mr. Eby's third graders from Sibley Elementary School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Students will begin their correspondence during the GRCC Cultural Connection visit and hopefully new friendships will develop for a long time to come.
LVNS Students and Staff wish to thank The GRCC Cultural Connection students for their many generous contributions to LVNS. Best Wishes in the rest of your school year! Hagooneeh!
