In Navajo, Lake Valley (Be'ak'id halgaii) means a white flat areas of lake. Lake Valley is a rural community location in the northwest part of New Mexico on the Navajo Nation. Farmington is a hour north from Lake Valley and Crownpoint 30 minutes south of Lake Valley. Lake Valley is a community of about 400 people with a local chapter house. There are two trading posts: Tsaya and Savages posts which sell gas, food, and other supplies. La Vida Mission is a Seventh Day Adventist community which has a church, school, and health clinic.
Lake Valley Navajo School (LVNS) is an elementary school part of the Eastern Navajo Agency Bureau of Indian Affairs. LVNS has about 120 students. LVNS has a dormitory, cafeteria, library, basketball court/playground and lots of surrounding mesas.
